As I told use in 1st blog I recovered from covid. Well, guess what?? My nephew tested positive kan covid ani ons nou al uitlos nie.πŸ˜’. Luckily he was isolating far away from us so we were safe but still the strain it put on me and my family members feels like we will never recover from it. as I am getting myself back to normal i get small setbacks. I am so far behind with my assignments and also work I feel like just giving up!! πŸ˜” For some people it sounds like I am complain but I just cannot get focused or get into that groove to study. I missed tests due to me not remembering about which they say it part of the after effect of covid I am experiencing so much anxiety through out this 2nd semester. I have to focus on being safe, I have to focus on keeping my learners safe, I have to focus keeping my loved ones safe and ME it leaves me all stressed and worried. is this what is 30 about?
Well I am figuring that out still to deal with everything but lets talk about ….

MUSIC

The lite side of life. As they say music takes away a lot of thoughts it relaxes the mind, the body and the soul and sometimes you can relate to those words. It brings  emotions out of weather u feeling happy or sad.
SU 2 I never knew how important music is for the young children as I am  in my classroom you just say a rhyme do a few movement and boom u done. But in SU2 it gives me so much perspective what I should do , what I should do better and what I should focus on. As I said I would like to learn more activities that is appropriate for each age group and I think that's where most teachers probably lack I myself can say I AM ONE OF THEM that has no cooking clue what to teach the learners in music. There are so many various music elements you have to look at which I have learned in SU 2. It gives me a sense of closure to learn more about music and to do a lesson plan for my own classroom.

  1. As a Foundation Phase teacher, you have to choose between utilizing indigenous African music, Western Art music or contemporary commercial music (including popular music and film music) in your classes. Which would you choose? Please motivate your answer.

I would choose contemporary commercial music. As it is focus on the 21st century. It has characteristics of dissonant harmonies, use of uncommon and/or complex rhythms, use of brass and percussion instruments and of electronically created and synthetic sounds. Lets look at this way children like upbeat they love also something they know. Children love to dance they enjoy something they are familiar ek kan seker nou 'n tiktok song aansit half of my learners would sing along weather its a bit they sing but they body will move with song. We can learn twinkle twinkle little star yes but will they continue singing when they get home? Learners today has so much influence around them their parents playing music on a weekend gaan dit twinkle twinkle little star wees ?? Nee waar? Children want to be comfortable and lets face it to get something out a learner u need to make them comfortable and come on their level.

  1. Do you think that the examples and content offered in SU 2 are inclusive? Please motivate your answer.

Yes, in SU2 like I said it give you various of music, various of instruments being used. and games. Music its about expressing yourself, your values, your believes and it gives you and idea of a person background.

  1. What suggestions do you have for making the content more inclusive? Please provide examples of how the content and activities presented in SU 2 could be changed or adapted to be more inclusive.
Understanding that the diversity of musical traditions, instruments, styles and values is one of the most special aspects of his subject area. class culturally inclusive by:
  • teaching students about instruments, traditions, and styles from a variety of cultural and geographic backgrounds
  • helping his students learn about composers, singers, and instrumentalists from a variety of cultural backgrounds
  • teaching his students songs that different cultural groups have used to combat oppression and exclusion over time
  • asking students to share musical traditions from their own families, heritage and histories, and inviting families and community members to share as well.
Well that's all for now my fellow musicians lol May we learn and create beautiful melodies together.
